Klezmer Jam, Dance and Open-Mic Cabaret
Our Klezmer Jam is a monthly gathering of musicians, dancers, families, friends and neighbors having a little nosh and a lotta fun.
Musicians from across the city who have a love for music and want to play Klezmer together are at the heart of our Klezmer Band. Led by professional Klezmorim, we play new Klezmer tunes (right from the pens of the people in our area) as well as centuries- old melodies. The music jam is open to all, as is the dancing. Bring your instrument, a music stand and join in. Or, spend time on the dance floor where a specialist in traditional and evolving Yiddish steps invites everyone – from novice to experienced – to join the circle.
The open-mic cabaret is a time for performers, soloists, duos and larger ensembles, to display their talents for the community. We have the great house band to back you up if need be and a captivated audience to cheer you on. The open-mic cabaret is not limited to instrumentalists and vocalists. New Klezmer-style poetry has been showcased at some of our gatherings; all art forms from the Yiddish tradition are welcome.
The Klezmer Jam, a kind of music, dance and open-mic cabaret, is an opportunity for getting together, celebrating and participating. We gather to build community, we celebrate our heritage and where we can go from here, and we participate in creating new Klezmer Culture.
As our organization grows, we look forward to more programing including Yiddish language activities, poetry workshops, emersion days and more fun playing and learning music together, dancing and having a good time.
